*Newsletters= Every Monday a newsletter will go home with skills of the week to study and a behavior chart you will need to initial daily for communication. If I need to communicate important information, I will be sending you more details through an email.
*Dismissal changes need to be in writing. You may write on the newsletter or you may write me a physical note and place it in their Go Home Folder which needs to be purchased in the front office if you did not do so already. :)
Donations:
1. We are always in great need of small toys for our treasure box. Students every Friday if they have stayed on green 4-5 days in a week they get to go to our treasure box.
.2. Also, I give out skittles here and there as a surprise during the day, if your child can't have one, please write me a note.
3. Start saving shoe boxes at home please for upcoming projects. It would help me a great deal if you can store them at home, until we need them, as I don't have a lot of room in our classroom. Thank you so much. :)
Spelling / PhonogramTests=
spelling test will be given approximately every other Friday. Our units of study sometimes last from 5-8 days. I'll explain more during curriculum night. However, On the newsletter students will start off with 5 words to study throughout the week and will be given a test on that Friday. If 90% or above of my students score 80% or above, I will then start giving 10 words per units. Phonograms will always be a group of 10, but students will study these for two weeks or more. On the practice spelling test also includes copying a statement during our first quarter and then eventually move up to dictating a sentence. Reminder this is an enrichment piece so it will be a practice grade ( not counted in the grade book).
“We, at Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary School, are committed to your child’s success with regard to educational achievement. One of the potential roadblocks to academic success is lack of exposure to the grade level curriculum, as well as ample time for review and practice. Frequent absenteeism can significantly impact this carefully developed design, resulting in educational gaps that can hinder optimal performance to a significant extent”.

CME 2017-2018
Dear Parents,
It was a great pleasure meeting all of you at Open House! I was very excited to meet you all as I know we will have an awesome year together. Below will be some great tips and a few reminders so we can get best organized for the year.
1. All paperwork which needs to be filled out may be turned in the front office if possible before Thursday if you wish. An idea you may scan it and sent it to me through email. This will help me get best organized in creating my email groups, etc. Thank you so very much for your support in this. :)
2. When you come in on Thursday with your child, I will be greeting everyone by the door to cover 3 of the most important things for the day.
They are as follows: I will ask how will they go home that day, will they be eating cafeteria food or bringing in a lunchbox and do they have an allergy I should know of, as well as taking attendance. I am aware we did this at open house, but I double check if my information is correct. :)
3. After you may walk your child in class help them unpack anything you may have in their back pack(snacks may be placed in the bin by the sink). Then, hang up their back packs on the hook which has their number. Any supplies you may have forgotten can be placed in the brown bags under neath my whiteboard.
4. You may then go with your child and help them get started on their morning work. Most importantly write their name, first and last if they WISH! Also, they may color with their crayons and help them remember if they finish early, they may draw anything they want on the back or look at any books I may place on their desk.
5. Something else to practice which is very important, is walking out of the class for a fire drill. I tell my students, they may make a bubble (no talking for safety reasons) and put their pointer finger in their ears to help them with the loud bell. I warn them it is loud, but we still have to exit the building following me quickly. All eyes on the teacher. :)
6. Extra clothes-Please have an extra set of clothes for your child in their backpack at all times in case of an accident. Also, please remind them of what they have in their bags. This is very important. I am NOT responsible for changing the student. Students need to change their clothes on their own. I send them to the clinic with an aide and someone will instruct the student to change in the bathroom. The clinic nor I provide under garments. :) Also, help your child understand to double check they changed every piece of clothing which got wet, socks, shorts etc. :)
This will help me tremendously as everyone is safely in their seats as I greet everyone and get our important information for the day.
I am aware this will be a very special day for a lot of you dropping off your little one, and I will be handing you a special poem to take home with you for the day.
Again, any questions or concerns you may have along the way, please email me or leave me a message at school. I will be happy to respond.
Love,
Gelsy Rodriguez
