Kindergarten Tip Before School Starts

Role Playing with your child at home how they go home, and things they do at school help relieve any anxieties for parents and children.  Below I will be posting tips on how to do this.

1. Role play how they will be walking in to school and getting to their classroom, room #106.  You may practice at home and at school on Thursday and Friday.

2.  You may show them how we will line up to go into the cafeteria and say their full name in a loud voice to the cafeteria lady. I say loud voice because the kindergartners tend to be nervous and their voices are very low, so I tell them to practice in their loud, strong voices. Also, not to worry I will be with everyone the first seven days or until I feel my class is feeling SAFE!

3.  If they will be riding the bus, you may tell them the color and number of the bus so they can remember.  Also, if your child will be going home in the bus, I assure you I will have them walk about twenty steps before they get to the next teacher whom will then guide them to the next teacher by door and then guide them to their BUS!  Yayyyyy!

4.  Go over bathroom rules.  Before going in the bathroom, I have the kids knock to check no one is in there.  After checking, they may go in, close the door, use the restroom, and make sure to remind them to flush, and finally wash their hands or use the hand sanitizer outside the bathroom door.

5.  Simple hand signals for class will be:  raise one finger=asking permission for water, raise two fingers=I need to use the restroom, raise three fingers=I need a tissue. :)

6.  Please speak with your child about respecting our classroom property, as well as students in our class.  It is very important to communicate this, as little things can get misunderstood.

7.  Ensure your child I will be dropping them off for specials and lunch time, but assure them I will come back and get them.  :)

Hope this helps! :)
